I love apps and tools. I like good freeware even more. For me, good means that they make my daily work easier and are aesthetically pleasing. Not so easy to find.

Here are five free apps that I use regularly.

Kap

Especially in remote work, it is sometimes necessary to show colleagues workflows on the screen. At mediaman, we now have a really good how-to section for internal purposes. But I also record presentations from time to time, because my slides contain as little text as possible and are therefore hardly understandable without the audio track.

Kap allows you to record the screen or parts of it together with microphone input and compresses the recordings if desired in a space-saving way, but in good quality.

Shottr

The on-board functionalities for screenshots in MacOS leave little to be desired. But if you need a little more, Shottr is ideal if you want to edit screenshots quickly, for example to hide parts. But Shottr also brings simple functions for measurements.

Hidden Bar

The menu bar in MacOs is besieged by various apps, few of which I need on a regular basis. Hidden Bar hides and unhides unimportant icons at the push of a button. Other apps can do that too. But Hidden Bar is free.

Focus

Pomodoro timers are a dime a dozen. This one is aesthetic, compact and of course free — not a given.

Orion Browser

The Orion browser is currently my favorite discovery. It feels like Safari, is based on WebKit of course, but has privacy features built in and supports both Firefox and Chrome extensions.

What are your favorite free Mac apps?
I look forward to your tips!
